Scootboot is proud to announce Aisling Jones (17, Sunshine Coast Hinterland, QLD) as the winner of the inaugural 2026 Scootboot Young Rider of the Year Award.
This global award celebrates young equestrians who demonstrate exceptional horsemanship, care, connection, and commitment to their horses and communities.
In its first year, the program attracted over 1,000 entries from more than 50 countries, highlighting the incredible depth of talent and dedication within the next generation of riders.
A standout global winner
Aisling stood out to the judging panel for his genuine partnership with his rescue filly, Bambi, and his strong involvement across multiple equestrian disciplines and community programs.
Over the past 18 months, Aisling has developed a calm, patient, and trust-based partnership with Bambi, a young rescue horse.
His focus on consistency, understanding, and welfare-first horsemanship was a defining factor in his selection.
More than a rider
Alongside his work with Bambi, Aisling is deeply involved in the broader equestrian and community space. His experience includes:
- Training with the Woombye Light Horse Regiment
- Competing in Tentpegging, with success at both Queensland and New South Wales U18 level
- Volunteering with Riding for the Disabled
- Trail riding and working toward his Trail Guide Certification
He has also achieved both his King Scout Award and Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award, demonstrating leadership, discipline, and commitment beyond the saddle.
Currently in his final year of study at the University of Canberra Southbank Brisbane campus, Aisling is completing a degree in Visual Arts, with aspirations to become an equine artist.
Recognised on a global stage
Scootboot CEO Cheryl Gray said the standard of entries made judging the inaugural award both inspiring and challenging.
“Aisling stood out for his dedication, his contribution to the groups he represents, and the genuine partnership he has with his horse,” she said.
“He embodies exactly what this award was created to celebrate, and the fact that Bambi is barefoot makes it even more aligned with our values.”
A partnership built on trust
For Aisling, the recognition reflects the bond he shares with Bambi.
“Having that strong connection without any restrictions, with Bambi it’s her choice to be with me,” he said.
“We are in sync with everything, even if I breathe out loudly she will do the same.”
From quiet training sessions to public appearances with the Light Horse Regiment, their connection is evident in every step.
Award recognition and support
As part of the Scootboot Young Rider of the Year Award, Aisling receives:
- A $1,000 scholarship to support his equestrian journey
- Free Scootboots for 10 years
- A Scootboot gift pack
These awards are designed to support his ongoing development as both a rider and an artist, reinforcing Scootboot’s commitment to supporting the next generation of horse people.
