"A True Lifesaver": How One Pair of Scootboots Became an Everyday Essential
Every horse owner has that one piece of tack they simply couldn't live without.
For one Scootboot customer, what started as a purchase to support her horse's barefoot transition has become one of the most-used and most-trusted pieces of equipment she owns.
Here's her story, in her own words.
Supporting a Barefoot Transition
After more than 15 years in steel shoes, her horse began the transition to barefoot.
Like many horses, the first couple of months weren't easy.
"I originally ordered the boots for my horse's barefoot transition. The first 1–2 months without steel shoes (after 15+ years of shoeing) were very difficult for him. His feet were sensitive, but he was able to go in the paddock, play with friends and eventually work from the ground and lunge thanks to the boots, which protected his feet and kept him pain free during the transition."
Keeping horses moving comfortably throughout a barefoot transition is incredibly important, and having hoof protection available can make all the difference.
From Transition Boots to Trail Riding Essential
As her horse became more comfortable barefoot, Scootboots continued to play an important role.
"Once he was able to move comfortably without boots, I started to use them only when working or riding him."
When the seasons changed and his feet became a little more sensitive again, the boots were ready when he needed them.
"At the end of winter, my horse started to be a bit more sensitive on hard, rough surfaces, so I started to use the boots again and was able to help him through it."
Today, they're a regular part of every trail ride.
"Nowadays, I put Scoots on when we are going out on trails and they provide perfect protection for the hooves. We have no breakage or sensitivity even on very hard, rocky surfaces."
She even found another practical use for them.
"I also put them on before trims with a bit of clay, to soften the hoof horn."
Helping Other Horses Too
As the owner of an equine bodywork business, she soon found herself recommending Scootboots to others.
"One of my clients called me and asked for help with her laminitic horse. I was able to lend her the boots, which they used during rehab. I believe she even bought her own pair since then."
She has since introduced more horse owners to Scootboots.
"I also have another friend who I recommended Scootboots to, who already has a pair for a barefoot transition."
When an Emergency Struck
A recent accident reminded her just how valuable it is to have a pair of Scootboots on hand.
"My horse unfortunately stepped on a screw, which punched a hole in his sole, nearly reaching the coffin bone."
While waiting for the veterinarian, the boots became an important part of his first aid.
"I was able to wrap the site and provide additional protection and relief with the boots."
Fortunately, invasive treatment wasn't needed, and the boots continued to help during recovery.
"Three days after the vet visit, once the wrap that was put on by the vet fell off, I was able to protect his hooves with our Scoots."
It's a great reminder that hoof boots aren't just for riding. They can be invaluable during rehabilitation and unexpected situations too.
One of the Most-Used Pieces of Tack She Owns
After more than a year of using Scootboots, she knows exactly what her newest horse will be getting first.
"I have just gotten a new horse and he will get his own Scoots before he gets a saddle!"
And perhaps her favourite part of her review says it all.
"I never would have thought, but they are one of the most used pieces of tack I own. They are stylish, durable and very versatile. I will never stop recommending them."
So impressed with the boots, she has even registered to become a Scootboot stockist so she can help other horse owners experience the same benefits.
