Big Mac’s Fresh Trim and a Ride in Scootboots
For Denise and her horse Big Mac, finding hoof protection that kept him comfortable, supported his movement and gave her confidence was important. After trying Scootboots, Denise was delighted with how Big Mac responded, particularly following his latest trim.
After Big Mac’s farrier visit, Denise followed the Scootboot team’s recommendation to use the gaiters with his boots. She decided to leave the boots on overnight and check on him the following morning.
When Denise arrived, Big Mac trotted over to greet her, completely sound and showing no signs of discomfort.
When Denise visited Big Mac the following morning, he trotted over to her. She checked the pressure points around his bulbs and found no signs of soreness.
“I checked all the pressure points around Big Mac’s bulbs and he did not seem to have any soreness,” Denise said.
Encouraged by how comfortable he appeared, Denise decided to take Big Mac for a short ride. They walked for around 15 minutes before moving into a few trots.
“Big Mac was very peppy and sound!”
After the ride, Denise inspected his Scootboots and noticed that one boot had twisted slightly, with the straps no longer sitting perfectly in the centre of his bulbs. With Big Mac having just had a fresh trim, Denise wondered whether the additional room around his hoof had allowed the boot to move slightly.
Rather than overtightening the straps, Denise simply realigned the boot so the straps were sitting correctly before putting Big Mac back in the paddock.
Her careful approach highlights an important part of getting the most from Scootboots: the right fit and regular checks are key. Hooves naturally change with trimming and growth, so checking the boots and their fit regularly helps ensure they continue to perform as intended.
For Denise, the biggest reassurance was seeing Big Mac moving happily and comfortably after his trim and ride.
“I am very pleased with Scootboots so far.”
Big Mac’s story is a great reminder that every horse’s hoof journey is different. With the right size, fit and setup, hoof boots can become a valuable part of a horse’s routine, whether they are being used for riding, turnout or everyday hoof protection.
Thank you to Denise for sharing Big Mac’s story with us! We love hearing how Scootboots are helping horses and their owners enjoy more freedom together.
Please note: Scootboots should always be correctly fitted for the individual horse. Check your horse’s hooves and boots regularly, particularly following a fresh trim, and follow the fitting and use recommendations for your specific Scootboot model.
